Dancers express love for dance on social media

 

Different organisations and dancers celebrated International Dance Day on Wednesday sharing dance videos on social media amid the ongoing general holiday, which began on March 26 to stem the spread of COVID-19.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Shadhona Cultural Circle – A Centre for Advancement of South Asian Culture, Bhabna Nritya Dal, Dhriti Nartanalaya and dancers Warda Rihab, Samina Husain Prema and others expressed their love for dance posting videos of group and solo dance performances on Facebook.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy uploaded a video of a dance production on its Facebook page where dance artistes Shahnaj Sharmin Ananna, Laila Yesmin Labonno, Morshedur Rahman, Naznin Alam Jui, Ruhi Afsana Dipti, Miftahul Binta Mashuk, Naimuz Enam Naim, Imon Ahmed and others performed dance recitals synchronised with the Nazrul song Dao sourjo dao dhoirjo he udaronath.

‘Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy arranges elaborate programmes every year marking International Dance Day. As COVID-19 pandemic is raging, the academy decided to celebrate the day with a video this year. I hope viewers across the country enjoyed it,’ Hasan Mahmud, public relation officer of Bangladesh Shilpkala Academy, told New Age.

Shadhona Cultural Circle- A Centre for Advancement of South Asian Culture uploaded a video titled ‘Moksha’ on its Facebook page.

It contained special messages from renowned Indian classical dance maestros namely Kathak dance exponent Ashimbandhu Bhattacharya, Manipuri exponent Bimbavati Devi, Odissi exponent Sharmila Biswas and Kathak exponent Maitreyee Pahari. Besides, internationally acclaimed artistes from India performed recitations and instrumental recitals.

Shadhona artistes performed Manipuri, Kathak and Bharatnatyam dance recitals respectively directed by Sweety Das, Hasan Ishtiaque Imran and Zuairiyah Mouli.

Sweety Das Chowdhury, Zuairiyah Mouli, Hasan Ishtiaque Imran, Alka Das Pranti, Anandita Khan, Ariful Islam Arnob, Taskin Anha and others performed dance recitals. Besides, Alka Das Pranti performed a solo Odissi dance recital directed by Sharmila Biswas.

The video also featured a message from Shadhona artistic director and general secretary Lubna Marium where she congratulated all dancers on the occasion.

Dancer Warda Rihab posted a video of her solo dance performance synchronised with the song Sharabaner ei jharna dharay on Facebook.

‘I have made the video marking International Dance Day. I hope the pandemic will soon pass and happiness will return across the world. I want to spread message of hope among the masses through the video,’ Warda Rihab told New Age.

Dancer Samina Husain Prema shared a video titled ‘Ei Jatray Bechey Gele’ on the Facebook page of Bhabna Nritya Dal.

Prema said, ‘I want to give the audience a glimpse of serenity with this dance video. Please stay at home until this crisis is over. I hope things will return to normal soon.’

The video featured performances by Samina Husain Prema, Shreysee Shashy, Moumita Dey, Sharmin Akter, Naziba Basher, Mahima Swagata and others.
